Want to connect TFS 2010 Server using Visual Studio 2005 Team Explorer then follow below steps in order.

Install Visual Studio 2005

Install Team Explorer 2005

Install Visual Studio 2005 SP1

Install VSTS 2005 Forward Compatibility Update

Once Installation complete kindly Open VS2005 Team Explorer and add TFS2010 Server name as below :
