Windows deployment services installation and configuration step by step guide

WDS (Windows deployment services) :

Windows deployment services to use install operating system over the Network, Windows WDS Images can be customize according to our requirement, or we can mount default Install image and boot image available in all windows vista and above Operating Systems.

Operating Systems for WDS installation  : Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2 & 2012

Before you Begin make sure that the following Requirement are met :

• Machine needs to be a member of Domain or Active Directory Domain Controller
• DHCP Server needs to be available on the Network, because PXE Boot Work on DHCP
• DNS Server Active on the Network
• NTFS Partition needs to store the WDS images

Steps to Installation and configuration of WDS :

Click on Start Menu > Administrative tools > Open Server Manager > Click on Roles > Add Roles > Click Next > Select Windows Deployment Service > Click Next twice > Make Sure that "Deployment server" and "Transport server" are checked marked > Click Next > Click Install > wait to complete the installation and then close the wizard.

Restart if Prompt else continue for configuration..
Login to the server machine using Domain user Credentials and make sure that the user have at least Local Administrator rights..

Click on Start Menu > Administrative tools > click on Windows Deployment Services > In left panel expand the servers > Right click on the ServerName ( Server Name which you provide for WDS Server ) > and click to configure server > Click Next > Now Browse and Modify Remote installation Folder Path from System Drive to Any Another partition Like ( D or E Drive and make sure that the Drive has sufficient disk space to store the Images ) > Click Next > Now Select only "Respond to all client computers ( known and unknown )"  > DO NOT Check MARK on "Require Administrator approval" > Click Next & Finish

Step to Add boot images : ( Insert Windows 7 Installation CD\DVD ) "E" Drive is a CD\DVD ROM

Open Windows Deployment Services > Expand the Server > Right Click on Boot Images > and click on Add Boot Image > click on Browse > Go to the CD\DVD Drive and select boot image available at E:\sources\boot.wim > Click on Open > Click Next > On the Image Name Box Type Deploy Image > Type Descriptions Deploy Image > Click on Next and then Finish.

Step To Add Install Images :  ( Insert Windows 7 Installation CD\DVD )  "E" Drive is a CD\DVD ROM

Open Windows Deployment Services > Expand the Server > Right Click on Install Images > and click on Add install Images > click on Browse > Go to the CD\DVD Drive and select boot image available at E:\sources\install.wim >  Click on Open > Click Next > On the Image Name Box Type Window7_x32Bit > Type Descriptions Windows clean image > Click on Next and then Finish.

Now reboot your client machine & boot over the PXE network Boot to start installation through the WDS Server
